TERMS:

Your wedding date and time will be reserved upon receipt of a retainer of 50%. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS RETAINER IS NON-REFUNDABLE. Until the deposit is made, we are unable to work on your behalf (ceremony wording, etc) and the date will be available to other couples. Email transfers can be sent to proverbs31lifesyles@gmail.com

Upon receipt of the retainer, we will email you an information form to fill out and return to us, as well as some sample ceremony wordings (you are also free to search the internet for ceremonies). In addition, we will be available to you by unlimited email and at least one telephone/in-person meeting, if desired.

The balance of the ceremony charges, plus the rehearsal charge (if applicable) will be due 3 (three) days before the wedding. Email transfers can be sent to proverbs31lifesyles@gmail.com

Upon making a deposit for a commitment ceremony, you acknowledge that it is not a wedding ceremony, and that there will be no wording that implies otherwise.

WHERE WILL YOU PEFORM MARRIAGE CEREMONIES?

We will officiate at your wedding ceremony wherever you wish, and you can even come to our home!

HOW CAN I KNOW YOU ARE LICENSED TO PERFORM MY WEDDING CEREMONY?

The Government web site has a list of officiants register to perform weddings. To look us up   CLICK HERE     Use the “CSV” link for an alphabetic list, by location. For example, we’re in Ajax, so that’s where we appear on the list.

DO YOU PROVIDE THE MARRIAGE LICENSE?

No, you must get that on your own, before the ceremony can take place. To get a marriage licence, you will need  2 pieces of government-issued identification for each person getting married. One piece of identification must include your photo. Examples of government-issued identification include:

  • government-issued birth certificate, including any change of name certificates
  • valid passport
  • record of immigrant landing
  • Canadian Citizenship Card
  • valid driver’s licence
  • valid Ontario Photo Card

Fees vary and depend on the municipality. Please check the municipality’s website to ensure you have all of the information required to purchase a marriage licence. For more information, or to download a Marriage License Application Form: https://www.ontario.ca/page/getting-married#section-3

If you were divorced in Canada you will need to bring official proof of the divorce with you when you apply for a marriage licence. This can be the original or a court-certified copy of one of three documents:

  • the final decree
  • the final judgment
  • a certificate of divorce

If you were divorced outside of Canada, you will need to provide certain documents to prove that you are no longer married. The government needs to validate these documents. This process can take up to 4 weeks. You will need to send the following documents to ServiceOntario:

  • marriage licence application form: completed and signed
  • statement of sole responsibility: for each divorce (signed by both people who are planning to get married and a witness)
  • legal opinion letter: from an Ontario lawyer, addressed to both people who plan to get married, giving reasons why the divorce or annulment should be recognized in Ontario
  • divorce decree or annulment: an original or court-certified copy in English or French. If the decree is in another language, you will need to include a translated copy and an affidavit sworn by a certified translator.

WHAT HAPPENS IF WE CAN’T GET THE MARRIAGE LICENSE IN TIME FOR THE WEDDING?

We cannot perform a wedding ceremony without a valid license present. If you are unable to get the license and you have already paid for the reception and issued invitations, we will perform a “Commitment Ceremony” in which we declare that you are partners in love for life. We can “make it legal” at a later date.

WILL YOU DELIVER OUR MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE TO US AFTER THE CEREMONY?

The Record of Solemnization of Marriage we will give to you after the ceremony is not the same thing as a marriage certificate. Before you can get a marriage certificate, the marriage needs to be registered. We will do this by filing the paperwork with the government offices in Thunder Bay. Applying for the marriage certificate is your responsibility. You need this document to show legal proof you are married, apply for certain social benefits, and change a last name.
